This site will not be updated for the new major version DxO PhotoLab 4.
However, most of the information presented here remains valid.
This site no longer meets modern web standards
and I do not have the competence to perform the update.
I remain convinced that its original editorial format meets the needs of users.
Despite a certain weariness, I want to continue this project.

Discovering DxO PhotoLab

Processing an image with DxOPhotoLab Essential Edition

Photo taken on the dam of Petten inthe Netherlands in the afternoon If i format a flash drive will it erase.

A- Automatic application ofthe 'DxO Standard' preset

The 'DxO Standard' preset is applied bydefault.
The parameters of all available tools are judiciously adjustedaccording to the
shooting conditions (optics used, diaphragm, light and ISO speed).

DxO PhotoLab makes the most of your photos especially if
the optic module (Camera + Lens) has been calibrated by DxO.
Processing photos in rawformat is highly recommended.

The relevant tools are activated(Windows: white square / Mac OS X: blue square)
In addition to the 'Essential Tools'palette settings
with the '1- DxO Standard'preset, DxO PhotoLab :

*Adjusts lens Sharpness to maximize sharpness results
* Suppresses Chromatic Aberrations
* Corrects Vignetting depending on the diaphragm used
*
Corrects Lens Distortions
* Protects saturated colors avoiding flattened areas

When opening the photo, DxOalready offers a relevant solution to the image.

B- Recreate the original imageatmosphere

DxO PhotoLab brings a global solution to the image while
specifically treating thedifferent areas according to their illumination.

The'Essential Tools' palette offers the basic tools for processing thephoto.
Adjustments are needed:
* Either for restoring the atmosphere of the shooting that DxO PhotoLab
cannot guess
* Or for customizing your image according to your desire
Use the tools in this palette from the top to the bottom.

White Balance: Nothing todo in full summer sun > Original
Exposure Compensation:
The photo is slightly underexposed > Recover by0.3 LI
DxO Smart Lighting: Thisexclusive feature of DxO PhotoLab analyzes the image (brightness andcontrast) to balance the global tone over the entire available dynamicrange.
SmartLighting lightens the shadows by preserving bright areas andretrieves details in clipped areas. The default is the 'Uniform' option.
The scene being brightly lit, thesubject is still too dark.
Spot Weighted: This optionautomatically detects faces, but Spot Weighted can be applied to anyarea of the subject.
- Activate the selection tool (illustration)
- Draw a square on the too-dark
man >Select mode Medium
SelectiveTone: This function adjusts the SmartLighting corrections to create the atmosphere of thescene.
The sky lacks density > Highlights -20
The rendering of stones, black tillite, is too bright> Blacks -20
Contrast: For this camera +lens used, DxO uses a module measured by the laboratory.
The MicroContrast magic wand
proposes 16
Color Accentuation:
The very bright afternoon sky lacks saturation >Vibrance +40
This menu, rather than Saturation, is specially designed to act only onthe dominant colors of nature, blue and green.
Noise Reduction:DxO Standard preset activates it from the beginning.
DxO PhotoLab knows the camera, the selected sensitivity and thelighting of the scene will automatically apply an optimized noisetreatment to the areas that need it.
